So, Tide is actually a really tanky hero. Playing against bots as an initiator is tough since bots will almost immediately blow you up afterwards.
In a real match, your core items are Arcane boots, Magic Wand and Blink Dagger. When you blink in to Ravage, you next move should be Anchor Smash, as it's a pretty decent AoE nuke that also reduces the other team's damage, and has something silly like a 5 second cooldown. Gush and Kraken Shell are also great abilities, Gush should be used for Chasing a Kraken Shell just lets you tank some nukes. All in all, if you jump in, Ravage, and die, but your team still wins the fight, you did a good job. |

Maxing Gush isn't really recommended anywhere anymore. Tide is most popularly played as an offlane hero due to his inherent tankiness. Maxing Anchor Smash over Gush will allow for a more spamable spell which you can use to get multiple last hits while also harassing your enemy (assuming they're a melee hero). Maxing Gush second is fine, but it's huge drain on mana and I'd rarely recommend it. Getting one point in Kraken Shell isn't a bad idea, depending on the lane you're in.

Posted by jaxster So apparently Barackness lives about 10 miles from where I live in Raleigh, NC... also he mentioned that his 21st birthday is coming up next month or november... I can't remember. What do I do for this? Do I just take him out and get him ultra shitty at the bar and snort some coke off a hookers ass or what? I feel like I must do something to initiate him into the world of drinking and adulthood. I don't think he visits the boards much, so let me get some suggestions on how to get this youngin' shitty. -jax You should snort coke off of a jokey's boner. |

OK, so I don't have time to read through all of these, but I looked up some of my favorite heroes and saw some problems with your suggested builds.
Let's take Tiny. If you're going carry Tiny, you do not want Arcane Boots, you want Treads for the early attack speed, especially if you're going to Aghs rush. Arcanes are for if you're playing a roaming ganker or supporty type role with Tiny. There are other items that are amazing on Tiny, but you just kind of skip over them. Also, why isn't MoM suggested as at least a situational purchase? Also looked at your Nyx mid build, nowhere do you mention buying a blink dagger, even situationally. Blink Dagger is incredibly good on Nyx and should be at least a situational item if not core, especially as a mid hero. It helps keep Nyx relevant in the late game. Dagon rush isn't really an optimal Nyx build unless you're doing extremely well. Ethereal Blade is not a late game purchase, it's a luxury purchase. Alright, now Ancient Apparition. You have Aghanims as a mid-game item. This is a bad idea 99% of the time. Euls or RoA is a better choice in almost every situation. These are cheaper, more cost efficient items. Aghs is way too expensive for a support AA to farm in the mid game. You're Veno build is all over the place. A support Veno would almost never build any of the items you suggest, unless he's having an incredible game. A support Veno (read Ward spamming) needs Arcane Boots, not Treads. You also have a Shadow Blade as core...this is again a luxury item, Veno makes more use out of a Force Staff. Veno is a supporter who can initiate pretty well, why do you need the SB if you have the BD? Also, OoV is a waste early game and you can't afford it with all of the starting items you suggested. And now I move onto Lion. Lion is by far my best hero, and you're build for him is all over the place. You have him marked as a support, but you have Aghs, Rod of Atos (why is this needed on him at all?) and Force Staff. When I play a support Lion, I almost always try to get a Blink Dagger, which again you omitted as even a situational item. Blink is way more useful then Rod, Aghs and even Force Staff. A lone Aghs Scepter on Lion is relatively useless, since he'll only be able to ulti once, since his mana pool will be so low. I see what you were going for by recommending a Rod, but honestly, Drums-->Blink is by far the way to go. There's no need to really stack HP on Lion, since you're more reliant on positioning over survivability. He has terrible armor and 285 (read below average) move speed. Drums gives him the stats he needs as well as movement speed for a fraction of the price of the items you're suggesting. A Rod essentially does nothing except give him HP and Mana, but the slow is wasted since he has 2 decently long range initiations, especially Hex since it's an instant cast, and a BD is 1000 gold less than a RoA. All in all, I've thumbed through a few more of your guides and have seen some builds that just aren't smart or effective, especially with the labels you put on them. They're not bad builds, just need a lot of fine tuning and seem to not be the most effective use of a hero's strengths (see armlet Alchemist, this isn't bad, but Armlet is far from core on the hero due to it being a mid-game item on a hero whose entire purpose is to reach the late game before anyone else). My biggest criticism would be you suggest lofty item purchases rather than cheap, effective purchases especially when it comes to support heroes. |

A few thoughts spring to mind:
1. What's your current Twitch viewership? If you don't have a decent set of followers yet, it's going to be tough to get this going. 2. How many ideas do you have so far? Before launching something like this you need to have at least 6-7 weeks worth of ideas as well as a set schedule for when you'll be viewing the games and casting (I'm assuming you'll be casting the matches you pick) on stream and a set time to upload to youtube. These dates/times should be posted on your site. 3. Are you a good caster? Casting isn't easy and takes a lot of work. Before doing this, I'd recommend doing a few games from friends and casting them and sharing with a few people to get feedback. It's better to put out a finished product than a work in progress. 4. You might need to ask friends for videos the first few weeks. Do you have a few different teams you can get to help you out with this? I wouldn't want you to launch and then get submissions that kind of suck. 5. Advertising. How are you going to advertise? Reddit, NADota? You probably shouldn't just jump onto a random forum where you've never really posted and advertise yourself, people tend to not like that. Easiest way for people to submit games is by sending you the match ID. This is just me spit balling at 2 AM, but it's worth thinking about. |

Just wanted to wish a Happy Thanksgiving to all of the Americans here.
For you foreigners, let me explain the holiday. Today is the day in history where the United States decided to separate ourselves from the British Empire and take over the Native American lands. Essentially, George Washington decided that the USA needed a holiday. So while he was chopping down his annual cherry tree, he saw a turkey. The turkey scared GW and he then had a personal vendetta against turkeys, which is why we eat turkeys on Thanksgiving, in memory of GW's vendetta and as a new piece of revenge with every bite. Now where was I, ah yes. GW was spooked by a turkey but proved to be a poor turkey hunter. He employed the help of his Indian friend Hunts Like Turkey to teach him the ways of turkey hunting. HLT and GW went hunting all day and all night, but the cold weather was getting to them. They shacked up in a cave to keep away from the snow and freezing winds. The Morlocks found their bodies the next morning. Blue and frostbitten, the Morlocks used their earthen technology to revitalize GW and HLT, rejuvenated from the revitalizing process, began their hunt anew, pledging to share and turkey with their new friends the Morlocks. They quickly racked up many turkey kills and invited the Morlocks to a celebratory dinner. George Washington's wife, Martha, poisoned the food, killing the Native American leaders and the Morlock leaders allowing the USA to expand its newly acquired lands and start to become the best country in the world. In short, enjoy your turkey today and remember, each bite helps get vengeance for our founding father. Happy Thanksgiving from FallenElf P.S.- yes, it's 10:30 AM and I might have been drinking already. |

Item selection in 1v1 is half of the game though. I did a 1v1 SF the other day and item choices won me the game (as well as skill). He went for phase/life steal whereas I went for Phase/Aquila for pushing power.
I think a 1v1 is a good idea, but items should absolutely be allowed. Just no bottle crowing. |

Good afternoon fellow Doobs. Being home for the holidays is always fun time in the Elf house. My parents are so excited to have myself, my sister and my dog all under the same roof that they let me get away with things that they would normally scoff at, mostly, starting to drink pretty shortly after waking up. Now that it's 1PM and I've had 4-5 drinks coming off of 3 hrs of sleep, I thought it would be a good time to share the background of the American holiday of Christmas to the our foreign members.
Christmas is a holiday that can be traced back to its American roots in the 1800s. Jesus was a migrant worker from Mexico who came into the US looking for work. At the time, Mexico was facing a recession, and with the recent freeing of the slaves, Southerners were looking for a new source of cheap labor. Mexicans filled this gap perfectly. Jesus was a carpenter by trade, and by all account, a peaceful man. He would wake up every morning, making sure to pay his prostitute her full price, and walk to work on his Master's farm, building whatever needed building and repairing whatever the other Mexicans broke. Times were good for Jesus. Things started taking a turn for the worse when he came. Judas, or Old Man Winter as he liked to be called, started taking jobs for a price lower than Jesus could afford to take. Jesus, being the kind soul that he was, felt no malice for Judas, just sadness for the lack of work. Jesus knew that he needed to do something to provide for himself and his prostitutes. He saw that his old employers children were greedy little bastards and constantly wanted more and more toys. Jesus started making toys out of cheap and potentially dangerous materials and selling them to his old masters for extremely cheap prices. He soon earned the nickname St. Nick due to his masters not wanting to be associated with a foreign national. After a few years of doing this every winter, his operation grew to the point where he couldn't fulfill the orders himself. He hired the newly arrived Chinese workers to help him, paying them even less than he had ever made as a carpenter. Not wanting to be a racist, he started calling the little Chinese workers "Elves" and dressing them up in green to try to make them not look asian. Soon enough St Nick and his elves were making toys for all of the rich children in America. Once the government got wind of this, they knew they had to do something. Christmas was created in order to hide the fact that a Mexican had gotten a leg up on all of the rich white folks in the South. So Merry Christmas everyone. Next up Jewish Chrismas! Jewish Christmas is a holiday the Jewish people tried to steal because they were jealous of all the Americans celebrating Christmas. It didn't work and to punish them, we make them spin dreidels for chocolate money. Everyone knows that Jewish people are allergic to chocolate during the winter. Not only this, but Jewish people love gold, as exhibited here: ![]() So the chocolate tricks them into thinking theyre getting real gold, but only getting chocolate instead. Revenge bitches. |
