Welcome Priceykins. Be sure to visit our TeamSpeak server (voice.dotanoobs.com), that is where all of the fun is. We have tons of users from Europe so there should be folks around any time you want to get a few games in.

Glad to have you and look forward to playing a few with you later!

DotA is Defense of the Ancients, a multi-player battle arena! It started as a Warcraft 3 mod, and is now one of the most popular games in e-Sports (Valve hired the developer and created a full game on Source engine in classic Valve fashion).

DotA is the original, and it has spawned many copycats you may have heard of (League of Legends, Heroes of Newerth, Heroes of the Storm, Strife, Smite etc). It is a fantastic game and fully Free To Play (purchasable aesthetics but EVERYTHING gameplay related is 'unlocked' the first time you log in!)

The game is tons of fun and we've been playing it non-stop for years now, feel free to pull it down and come play a game with us.

I'm fantastic, thank you. Welcome to DotaNoobs bowlcool, and welcome to Defense of the Ancients! It really is a fantastic game, hell it's kept me loyal to it for the last three years, and that is a feat.

Most of us hang out in the Teamspeak server (see the upper right corner of the forum board or check the homepage), so hopefully we catch you there soon for a few games, I won't complain about another person here to support my terrible carry play

Great, I'm not sure that I'll be around much this evening but I'll keep an eye out for you over the next couple of days. Feel free to add me on Steam, I have the same username there.

You are putting words in my mouth. I just meant I don't see much of a use for the forum beyond organizing Events, which is something we hope to get rolling again here soon (it was invaluable for our Brawl in the Family 2013 Tournament and our recent D&D Campaign).

That doesn't mean I will remove general forums and the like, I will just probably consolidate it down a bit (no need for Coaching and Drafting forums etc, that can all just be Dota2 forum category).

The front page (outside of the board, just dotanoobs.com) will link your Steam, ABXD, and Teamspeak accounts together, so that is already done. The board is just not a priority for me as I am actively working on the mainsite and some Teamspeak background stuff. The board is here if we need/want to use it and functioning properly.

All of that said, I wouldn't mind this board being a little more active, especially since it gives us a sense of community outside of the Teamspeak server. I just see working on things for TS or the mainsite to be more important for the community as a whole, and hopefully driving traffic to the website is enough to convince a few folks to use the board and post regularly. I don't see us ever becoming as popular as official Acmlm site back in the day though

I am terminated: please do not bring up my other boards/websites on this one. It's none of anyones concern, and definitely not yours. Digital-Deception should not be considered an active board, I don't have any time to maintain it, and I'd feel terrible if anyone went there to post thinking I did.

I understand you want to drive traffic to AcmlmBoard variant, but not like this, take it easy.

bowlcool Glad you made it to teamspeak, hope your games with Llama and the crew were fun! Don't be a stranger, we'll feed together real soon.

General Discussion was for general things, like politics or the weather. DotaNoobs discussion was for topics relating directly to this site/community. Dota forum was for the game itself. Yes there is a lot of redundancy there which is why I think pairing it down a bit is a good idea.

All in good time

Recent changes in the way Twitch handles chat had broken the chat bots. They were no longer getting user/moderator lists which meant that all moderator commands were limited to the streamer only.

I pushed some changes this morning to correct that issue, so moderator commands should be working normally again as of now. A slight inconvenience but it looks like the TwitchChat changes offer some cool new features, so I look forward to implementing them in v2.0!

Stay calm and always bet on flax/shane/bandit etc

Yeah, I am working on some changes to the front-page site to help facilitate us running events again (in-houses, non-dota game nights, etc). Once that stuff is in a state ready for release I will be chopping up the Categories on the board to pair it down, and adding a forum for Custom Games!

Thanks for your input, always appreciated.

Good call, I turned off my custom fix because they rolled it into the Board software itself as an option. Sadly it defaults to using the female-color-scheme for everyone which is kind of ugly, so I'll swap that around and re-enable in the near future.

Thanks!

RE: Your edit, the color scheme that is defaulted to is gross, so i re-enabled coloring user names by gender until I can get that sorted

I really like Murmur and am a huge FOSS advocate but the ServerQuery interface for Teamspeak is night-and-day better than the ICE stuff for Mumble/Murmur, at least it was at the time we decided to switch.

I need the ability to do anything I could do as an admin on Teamspeak inside of my Python code so I can do fancy stuff like change server groups after X total hours connected, create event channels automatically, and soon to hand out "doob points" for participation in said events etc.

That was our main motivation for swapping over, Teamspeak was much more feature complete in that area.

The board itself accepts patches at their GitHub (https://github.com/ABXD/ABXD), because most of the stuff I had done custom was rolled into the 3.0 release of ABXD, I ditched my custom branch and we are now running stock, so I'll just have to update the board to latest and then put that change in.
