Who would have thought a team with 3 initiators (ES, Tide, Batrider) and 4 melee (ES, Tide, Lycan, Pudge) would rock so hard? I guess the Dire never realized they had a clock ticking on them.

Welcome! I saw your post on /r/dota2 and added both you and your girlfriend. To be honest we haven't had many organized events (eg. in-houses) recently, but you can almost always find a few people on the Mumble server that are matchmaking. Cheers!

Welcome welcome (have to one up fallenelf)!
Like fallen said, join up on the Mumble server and look for some people to queue up with. If you and your two friends are really looking for some in-houses, bringing three people will make that a lot easier to do so that could definitely be an option. Cheers! |

Here is a completely different "awesome" game: http://www.twitch.tv/ggnetsheever/b/322427879
Draft starts at 1:46:19, and there is a slight pause that ends at 1:57:36. Just trust me. |

I'm in. Just to be clear, this is going to be random team generation AND random draft game mode, right?

Any friend of Ranshin is a friend of mine! I'll add you on Steam once I get my home internet back up and running. And I know what you mean about solo queue... if there really is no one about to play I usually fire up a co-op bot game and force myself to learn a new hero. Invoker has been my focus for the past week or so... a lot of fun if you have not tried!

Oh, and if you are interested in draft mode you should sign up for the in-house tournament... here is the link: http://www.dotanoobs.com/forum/thread.php?pid=2118#2118

Welcome! I never played LoL, but after a quick look at Shyvana and Akali it looks like you are interested in a carry (deals a lot of damage late in the game, typically weaker in the beginning). Take a look at either Bounty Hunter or Riki if you like stealth mechanics, or maybe Luna if you like a carry that also does a lot of nuking. You actually have access to all of the heroes immediately, you just need to switch from the "recommended heroes" to "all heroes" in the picking window. I personally would suggest picking up something like Skeleton King since he only has one active skill and can let you focus on learning other aspects of the game initially.
There should be a ping on the mini-map if you try to buy (right-click) an item that is only available there. The secret shops are forest off of the top lane on the Radiant side just below the river, or on the bottom lane on the Dire side just above the river. You can also find select "secret shop" items in the side shops of both the side lanes, for example the Ring of Health and Energy Booster. This community is fairly big on using voice chat, and most of the parties form up on the Mumble server. If you are looking for someone to play a few bot games with and get some advice, add me on Steam and send me a message. Cheers! |

I've skimmed through the thread and would like to chime in. The vision of a DotaNoobs being a "safe place to play" is one that I agree with completely, and to be explicit I think this should always take precedence over the "competitiveness" of games. With that in mind, maybe we should split Alverez's lobbies into intent rather than skill as follows.
The AP lobbies are intended to focus on the basics of the game and should probably include at least one regular sitting in a broadcaster slot to try and facilitate. This may be one of the most important and difficult positions to fill, since these regulars will need to (a) give advice in a constructive and forgiving way and (b) able to gauge people's willingness to hear advice. Shane and Gambit are quite good at this, and I think fallen and I could do this with lower levels of advice. I agree with fallen's earlier post about learning a lot from actually laning against and having your mistakes be punished by talented people, so maybe playing in the games but holding back would the (c) attribute for those people. The SD/RD lobbies would be focused on broadening each player's DotA experience, forcing them into different heroes and roles. These lobbies should be mostly self-sufficient, and any inter-personal problems dealt with by contacting an officer. The main issue here will be keeping the teams fairly even and I don't have much advice there. The CM lobbies would be focused on learning and practicing the broader strategy of a DotA game. Labeling it for "big dogs" goes against the "safe to play" vision in my opinion. If we do want to have a more competitive series of CM inhouses maybe we should just have a different day and leave Sunday as the "come join us and learn" day? The competitive inhouses could offer a good opportunity for the casting, too, although I would suggest having two people cast the game together. Thoughts? |

Posted by JRF2k I'll be on tonight. Can't drink tonight though. Running 10 miles in the morning. I was thinking of just playing bots anyway. Nice to have you here! I was in a similar place several months ago, and the bot games can definitely boost your experience and confidence. Feel free to add me (or just get on Mumble) and I will play a few bot games with you and give what assistance I can. |

Hey Alverez, think we should make some "thank you" MS Paint pictures for you to forward to syndereN? In the spirit of the thread.
