Theres the looking for group channels, those are usually filled with people looking to form matchmaking groups
theres the inhouse channels, those are for people who are playing inhouses or for people who are on teamspeak but arent being social
theres a bunch of matchmaking channels, these have the groups formed in the LFG channels, your best bet to find people to play with is to try these channels first
theres some channels for people who play other games with the doobs, we play more than dota afterall
and then theres the AFK channel
and last but not least theres team practice channels for our team league

in the server but not as important, theres an admin channel where all the admins plot sweet vengance against all the doobs, aka binary is afk

The best thing to start with is usually the support heroes, but im all for people learning a hero other than lich lion or lina.

heres some things you can ask yourself:

Do i want to tank up alot of damage?
Do i want to dish out the damage?
Do i want to be getting kills or being involved in getting kills often?
Do i like helping the team haha

these are the kinds of thigns you can start with when trying to figure out who to play.

I remember when i started playing years ago i picked Lina Inverse only because i loved the idea of doing 1200 damage with the push of a button. But like these days i either love sitting back and farming or i love playing the hyper agressive mid role because i love dishing out the damage and i love being in those pressure situations because i love performing "in the clutch"

another good tactic is to look at all the heroes and say okay this guy sounds cool and then try him for some bot games, if you cans see yourself playing him for a few dozen games then go learn him! youll learn all the heroes eventually it all comes down to who and where you want to start with. Dont let other people dictate who you should go learn. its just a game haha play who you want to play to make it fun for you!

Heres what i used to think, and its something i still think.

if im questioning what should i be doing? usually i should go find something to do, whether it be stacking camps and ancients with your carry. Smoke ganking: my favorite. or even farming an open lane as long as your carry has a place to farm. Contrary to popular belief, supports need farm too. You dont want them to just become the easiest food of the enemy teams life so if you can get a little something to remove that edge for the enemy team from a few minutes of farm then by all means do it! carries might be your damage dealers. but good supports more over, supports with a little bit of farm will win you games more than you could ever imagine. that big mek pick up or a pipe or force staff, even drums or a few bracers makes all the difference! the nice thing with all those items too is theyre made up of lots of items that cost very little gold so as a support when you are starved for gold you can be buying these items bit by bit. Another thing too is that youll naturally want to give all the farm to the carry, and thats great its the best case scenario to do that. Smoke ganking with the other 3 members of your team is a great way to get gold and to make sure that you keep the enemies carry from being as fed as yours if you repeatedly kill him hes going to be underfarmed
