Hey there! The thing to keep in mind with public MMR is that if you are solo queuing you will be matched against other people that are just getting the courage to try a public game.
Having said that, solo queue can be an unpleasant place. You should jump on our TS3 server (voice.dotanoobs.com), join a busy channel and introduce yourself. Mention that you are new and everything should be fine. We have spontaneous IHs during the week, and a bunch of MM groups forming too. Looking forward to seeing you, cheers!

Atlas gave the theoretical organization, but really people can be MMing in any old channel. Your best bet to get playing is to just join a busy channel and introduce yourself. Cheers!
