Thanks a lot for the replies guys! I have a question though. How do you actually start a match?

1. I would think I would need to add them to steam so do you just ask each other's steam name?
2. Does steam help in starting the game (aside from chat)? Or does it all happen in steam after you're finished discussing?

Typical game with people you have not met starts with either (a) meeting on TS3 or (b) meeting in the in-game "Dota Noobs" chat. If (a), then you usually say something in the aforementioned in-game "Dota Noobs" chat like "hi" or "me", and the invitation is sent from there. Hopefully hilarity and good times follow. If not, please contact an admin and give us your woes. And THEN have hilarity and good times.

Welcome! There is a fairly reasonable spread of timezones, so don't worry too much about that.

Here is the first draft of the video: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/44172393/how_not_to_lane_against_pudge.mp4

I think we may need to redo it because there was quite a bit of background noise on my end and Gambit is blowing into the mic a bit. Oh, and my Dota noises were WAY too loud relative to Gambit, to the point that you cannot hear him over my lovely Dr. Kleiner. Either way you can see me feed in full glory

Yeah, my TS3 was still push-to-talk but this is the first time I am using OBS so a lot of setting need to be tweaked.

Welcome to the community mate! I also loved Veno when I first started out, so much fun. The best thing to do is to join our TS3 server (voice.dotanoobs.com), hop into a busy channel and introduce yourself. We will be starting up our Sunday IHs again soon, so keep tuned for that as well. Cheers!

PS. I googled "ZX81" to see what in the world you were talking about and got this:

Bandit's comments were great about where you should be getting income as a support. Keep in mind that it is OK to ask a farmer to grab a set of wards, though. It is in a carry's best interest for a support to have at least boots/TP (to respond to ganks, etc), so if you are so under-farmed 10 minutes in that you don't have those speak up. If you look at well coordinated games the mek is generally bought on the 3 position and not on either of the supports because the earlier you get the mek the more useful it is, and supports do not farm. It is pretty common to see brown boots and obs/sentries on the 5 support in pro games, especially if the assist gold has not been coming in.

Keep in mind that the benefits from such a selfless approach only pay off if the people that you are concentrating the farm on are (a) actually farming and (b) can utilize that farm well. In pub games that is not always going to be the case, but you can still work mid/late game on your positioning as Bandit mentioned. You will not have farm and will probably be under leveled relative to the 1-3 on both teams, so don't feel like you need to run into the battle and start right-clicking things. You don't do much damage that way and since you are squishy the middle of the battle is where you do not want to be. Try watching pro games and see how support players abuse the fog of war and stay on the outskirts of fights, popping in to use a spell and then fading back.

Remember the high resolution image of the Dota2 map someone did way back when? This genius took it and added drawing features online. Enjoy!

This might be a perfect event to get back in the swing of official IHs (not this weekend, but the following).

EDIT: As to servers, it looks like they are hosting them already so no additional work from us. Otherwise we do have a few linux VPS that may be able to handle this...
