Posted by Dirbaio If you're interested in having the blog integrated with the board, I've written a blog frontpage for ABXD, which is pretty simple. I made it a plugin for ABXD 3.0 but if you're interested I can give you the code for 2.2.3 (though it's really messy) It takes all the threads in a forum as blog posts, and people can comment in the threads. take a look at my forum's front page. Very simple, maybe that's not what you're looking for, but who knows ![]() Wow Dirbaio your board looks awesome! I think what you have for your front-page would be perfect, and we could implement a separate page for Hero Guides etc. Can you give us any kind of ETA for ABXD 3.0? I'd really like to start our major changed with the new version, plus the plugin system you have integrated seems awesome and I'd like to utilize that as well, maybe make some of my desired changes as plugins so others can benefit! Thanks for keeping us in the loop! |

Posted by Love is Dead I searched around for about 30 minutes to see what I could find. Youtube allows longer videos, but you must be a partner, which means you have to post fairly often and have a good following. Vimeo would allow longer videos but they specifically don't allow gaming videos. Not sure what other options there are. I think my account is "partnered" I wonder if I could change my account name to DotaNoobs so we could use that? I'll mess with it an see. I know I've heard of people using GameReplays.org but I've never checked them out. I know own3d and twitch have full replays, but are those only of games that were streamed on their site? We'll figure something out eventually, until then great work with the tools available to you! |

Look the bottom line here is we are all trying to have fun. No matter what we do there is always going to be some kind of skill-gap between a lot of our players/community. In time as we get more and more people and can have more then one or two games going on simultaneously (and a ladder!) then we can start pairing people up based on skill level somehow, to make sure everyone is somewhat equally balanced out.
On that same note, we are a league for -noob- players to the game, and while that is going to be very hard to enforce I think the general rule of thumb should be: If you are experienced enough in this game that we feel you can't be placed in our ranks anywhere without seriously disrupting balance OR if you have a attitude or are clearly just here trying to "nubstomp", we'll just have KINDLY tell that person that we're sorry but they are a detriment to the community and there are a million other places they can go to find a game. How do we handle this? Maybe for now we can create a thread/forum that is only visible by registered board members where we can discuss these things. If you feel someone is ruining our fun, then post and get a consensus. If your claim is legit I'm sure a few other people from that game will come back and vote YES and then we have to do what we have to do. It's not going to be fun and some people will be legitly disappointed/pissed off but it's better for the group as a whole. I can volunteer as our PR cease-and-desist man if we want haha. |

Posted by hippyflip Yea I love Purge's videos and guides. Make sure to watch the recent one on dotacinema, he gives a lesson on how experienced players outlane noobs. I think the biggest thing to learn from that is you should always always have regen in your lane. I have started looking at the magic stick/wand as a counter item, like if you are vs someone w/ short cool downs you get the wand to counter it so you get regen. This is exactly how I felt when making this thread, that Stick is a situational (albeit common) item and not a necessity or "core". I've definitely had games where I still have 2/3 tango's left 10-15 minutes in and a stick would have been pointless. That said I haven't played a single game without a stick since Ragequit Commando responded, and it has saved my ass more then once haha. |

Posted by hippyflip Yea, I hear that. Altho coming from league and WoW other online games you just come to expect horrible things to be said by anonomous pub players and the Trolls lawd. Learned a long time ago, back in my mudding days, always find a good group of people to play with, it makes the game tons funner. Same thing with guilds in WoW I always enjoy being in a community. I just hope I can help this one somehow. I am 31, and have a full time job a loudmouth wife and 2 kids, so my gaming time is very limited to whenever I can get the kids distracted/asleep and get my wife to keep her yammerin to herself for a hour to get a game in on the weekends is a CHORE. So I really liked bein able to come in for a pickup in house and just play without getting trolled cuz that's usually the only game I can play that day. A fellow MUDer! I'm in love! <3 <3 <3 Where did you play? Do you still MUD at all? I keep trying to get back into one, but nothing seems to stick. Currently kind of messing around in Imperian. |

Hey Doobs,
I feel like our first batch of in-house games went phenomenally well, and our numbers are growing on a daily basis. I think we should schedule a good 3-4 future times/dates for more of the same, and start posting announcements now. Maybe we even do a single recurring day (like every Monday night or something?). Getting together to play and meet each other is a lot of fun, and it gets the community out and involved with us. By scheduling something and announcing it days/a week in advance I think we can plan on better turn outs and maybe get 2-3 games going at once. Hell, last time I think |

Posted by Love is Dead I'd just like to point out that eventually we aren't going to be noobs anymore. We will have to find some way to include more skilled players, so I wouldn't outright tell them they can't play, but try to get them to be helpful and provide advice. If they are only interested in stomping noobs, then sure, kick them, but we should be careful not to offend someone that could bring something useful to the community. You are 100% right the last thing we want to do is scare people away, and hell the pro players are the ones we want to have around teaching us. I'm talking strictly about people who come in to take advantage of our "nubishness", and those are the people who would get a majority-vote in the thread? The issue right now is we have a relatively small player-base (don't take this wrong I'm incredibly excited at the overwhelming interest in this project) so its hard to fit everyone in to our current skill spectrum. If very talented players come to us to play and they display a good general attitude/are friendly I think we should reach out and invite them to mentor/comment on VOD's for us. Once we have enough people playing we'll find a place for everyone and we won't really be noob-only league anymore. Shit, I tried to buy www.dotapros.com as well but it was taken haha. In time i think our name can really just be a novelty, and while we will always have a place for the "unskilled" to come and play and learn in a friendly environment there's no reason we shouldn't maybe eventually consider the top 5 of the "Doobs" ladder winning some tournaments ![]() |

Posted by Love is Dead Oh that last game was a mess! I'd vote for Sunday night rather than Monday night, as I think we could get more people that way. What I have found is that the amount of people online on facebook or gchat jumps up Sunday night as everyone winds down for their weekend and prepares for the week. I'm also going to be starting a new job in about a week and a half. I won't be able to participate as much as I have been since the job is 7pm-7am 4 days a week with a rotating schedule. I have no idea what that's going to do to my gaming time, but I'll do my best to play with you all, or at least commentate afterwards. We will always find time to play with ya bro, no worries ![]() |

Have you guys been seeing (500) Internal Server errors while browsing the board? cPanel is showing me some pretty insane memory usage for the site. The footer of the board now displays peak memory usage, if you happen too see it looking higher then average let me know what you were doing/looking at!

Posted by Nitrocola Welcome AugDawg! I actually lanned some AoE Conquerors a few months back with 7 other friends - 4v4 ... that game is so fun. AoM was really fun too, although I wasn't a huge fan of AoE III. I saw AoE III on Steam all the sudden, I've never played. Is it not worth the effort? I did play Rise of Nations and that was a pretty awesome RTS. |

I'd urge you to give Rise of Nations a try. It did expand into modern-day but you could set a limit so I'd usually have gunpowder be the last age before its over. It was just like AoE II except there was a "territory" factor where your buildings added the land around them to your territory, and enemy troops would suffer attrition etc.
It was pretty good for LAN, I used to play AoEII Conquerors on MSN Gaming Zone all day long haha. |
