I'd just like to welcome everyone to the board and the league in general. Alverez put a great idea into motion and I think this league is going to be an awesome thing for reddits dota2 community, so make sure you hit the signup form on the main site while everything gets organized.

I added the Dota2 logo as the background image, and got it to scale properly with the page. It is kinda big and takes a second to load, and doesn't always fill the screen at odd aspect ratios. So should we keep it or revert back to a simple texture?

Figure I might as well start the introductions... My name is Brandon I am a senior at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee and am a split major (Computer Science and Information Systems Technology). I'm 23 years old and have been gaming forever. I loved WC2 and AoE II, spent a bit of time on WC3:FT and played a bit of DotA mostly on LAN with local friends. Got into HoN about two years ago? Switched from that to League of Legends because a lot of people I knew where playing that.
Played LoL for a good year and a half+, but never competitively, usually playing Ranked drunk at 3:00 AM (which is why my account is like 800 Elo hah). Got into the Dota2 beta a month or so ago and have been absolutely in love! I play a lot of other games but this one is definitely at the top of the list right now. Look forward to getting to know some of you and having fun while improving my game. |

Hey Fellner! Welcome to the board! We are planning on having a stream monitor on the main page, would you mind if your stream went up there when that gets implemented? It would be nice to have a stream to use as a test while that page is being developed!

Posted by Fellner To my understanding a person will be considered a noob if they have under "x" amount of wins or under "y" W/L or something along those lines. Since each league match needs to be monitored by a coach/admin/mod it will be quite easy to check each player's dota profile, along with monitoring the match itself ingame. Once the league has been running for a couple weeks we should have better detail of the skill levels within each team and be able to set up better matches or better opponents. Yeah I think our first few games/brackets are going to naturally be a little rough and unbalanced, but as we continue to play we can refine the way we rank/match-up members to ensure everyone is having fun and learning. I don't think it's possible to view another persons losses? I might be wrong, but some people can have 200 wins and be less skilled then an old DotA/HoN player with 5 wins. We should probably consider adding some kind of karma/ranking system (maybe your teammates can rate your skill-level after a league game and and this level is used as a basis for team placement?). Pre-made teams would make that impossible/biased though. But this is great, lets throw out ideas now so we have a direction when we are implementing this. |

It could maybe be based on user input, like a petition? You register, and get put on the bottom of the league. Once you've accumulated X number of wins [10? 15? 20?] you can 'petition' to be bumped up to the next level. At that point one or more admins/coaches/high-level players? will decide/vote if you should be placed at the next level.
Then we could also have a petition form to lower a users level. Say your on the third level of skill in the league, and you get paired with a guy 2-3 games that just sucks... bad positioning, lack of item understanding, w/e. You fill out a petition saying "this guy should be bumped down a level". If a user gets 5+ of these petitions against them, the system alerts the mods and they can decide to bump down or not? That way users all start at the same place, the bottom of the barrel, and have to work their way up. And any users who get carried or whatever can get petitioned back down? Might be way to complicated idk, just brainstorming. |

The general consensus is that all player data will be wiped once the game is out of Beta, but your right no official word yet.
I'd assume once Beta is over and the game launches, every game you play will give you EXP (we can see EXP for our profile on the main page but we never earn any now). So if they didn't wipe then those numbers wouldn't match up? E.x. A beta player might have 500 wins and be level 8 but a new player might be level 10 with only 100 wins, because those 400 games were in beta? Also, this belongs in the "Dota2 General Chat" forum, so I'm going to move it there ![]() |

Posted by PerfectAverage A ladder system should be defined. Players earn points for winning games and lost points for losing them. Additional points are given for hard carrying a game or even having a positive KDA. Teams that are created should be created with either a point cap or some other way to normalize the skill level of teams. This would require a little extra website/database/book keeping work - but is entirely possible. I know I've seen similar systems setup when I was playing a ton of SC2, so I know this would be doable. Anyways - we initially would want to test the system with placement games and test rankings that are wiped after the preseason to figure out whatever system/math is agreed upon actually works in practice (to avoid common problems such as point inflation, etc). Maybe this would be where seasons would come in as well. To fill in teams and maybe even have a soft reset of points. Just a thought. -PA I think the most important thing right now is to start getting some games going and see how things work out. We have a lot of time because this game is still in Beta so we can expect a huge influx of people once the game releases. I do however 100% agree that this league will not be possible without a ladder/tier/ranking/karma system that separates the player base. We are all at different skill levels and bunching everyone together is going to be very un-enjoyable for some people. |

Definitely love the updated mission statement! While we are called DotaNoobs and that was the initial goal, I think this little project of ours has the potential to get bigger then we are expecting, and we want to make sure we aren't limiting our potential member-base.
We do have a good 60-70 people registered already. I think we should run a few test games this weekend and though the upcoming week and make sure the system we have, which is basically just the Admins manually handling everything at this point, runs smoothly. Once the administration has a few small(er) events under its belt, then we really open up to the community (/r/dota2) and get the ball rolling. I only say this because I tried to put something similar to this together for the /r/LeagueofLegends community, and it fell apart because we had 400+ people sign up the first week and no one wanted to manually sort through all of that info. |
