I've read so many reviews bashing not only the server shit, but the game play that I think I'm going to shy away from grabbing this.

I would be happy to start up a region

@fallenelf The server issues are basically solved. EA didn't prepare enough for the massive onslaught of people that wouldn't stop playing so they got filled to capacity and nobody could get in for a while. Now they added a ton more room per server and added I think 9 more servers worldwide so its fixed (although DRM still sucks) As far as gameplay its incredibly fun and addictive. Ive got a city that is profiting a couple mil a day and is losing 60k an hr. Game mechanics are solid and is the same o'l SimCity if you've played others

At this point I won't be getting the game just out of principle. Especially now that its been shown that there are practically zero calculations being preformed on Maxis's servers and with a hack you play offline indefinitely. This was found out after EA had told the public that this forced DRM is actually a feature (the simulation is so complex we have to offload the CPU cycles to our server to calculate it). I try not to buy stuff from people who lie directly to their customers like that.

Interestingly enough maxis did have this planned as well it wasnt just EA. Based on the rate of how quickly the game is being bypassed I expect a cracked play locally version with saves in maybe a week and 2-3 weeks away from simulated or hosted fake servers so you can run a city with friends.

The DRM is pretty shit, but apart from that, the game itself is amazing.

Also dont cry about DLC for something small, go look at Dotas store and then cry about that $35 lina hair.

Gotta say though, the free game giveaway that EA is doing to make up for the server issues isn't the best. I would personally like a DLC or two instead of getting one of the games that I already have, accept for Bejeweled. It's a sad day when Bejeweled is one of their best selling games.

There is also the difference that dota isnt a 50 dollar game, its FREE

Nobody is forcing you to buy cosmetics, the game itself is fully functional without any purchase.
Being able to build a marina for 15 dollars is fucking silly though

Frankly I don't even know what you would use a marina for. There is passenger and cargo transport already so it seems kinda pointless

I don't really think cosmetic items for a 100% free game that has some of the highest production valves that the industry has seen is the same as the DLC that EA was already lining up to sale for a broken game that cost $60 bucks.

Maxis today =/ Maxis of yesterday. EA owns Maxis they are one in the same, and in fact they've come out saying "the always on region stuff was their vision" which is almost certainly a statement handed down by Corp EA to minimize the blow back from this debacle.

That's like saying Microsoft own Halo now, yet they still have the majority of Bungies Halo employees working for Halo's Microsoft games.

I'm sorry I don't follow you...

The latest Halo game was created by Microsoft's 343 studio which does contain a few vets from old Bungie but Bungie The Company, bought itself back from MS a few years prior. On the other hand Maxis is fully owned by EA and has been since 1997, and if you don't think that EA's shareholders mettle in things at the developer level, I've got a bridge to sale you.
