This current hate towards Russia is completely illogical and sort of embarrassing for the /r/dota2 community, in my opinion. American players, and I'm sure European players are no better in terms of play-style than anyone else. I selected American servers due to concerns about ping, and I've met some terrible players there.

Anyways, that's my rant. I'm sure everyone else in this forum will agree with me that there will be no anti-Russian or any other form of racial stereotyping here, as all are welcome and encouraged to play.

Hopefully I'll see you in game.

It seems to me that the whole russian thing in the Dota community reminds me of the Brazilian thing in the League of Legends community... though I think the Brazilian thing is more of a joke than being mean spirited.

Either way. Both are really dumb.

Well the Brazillian thing in LOL has to do with the fact that they need to remove Latin America from North American server queues. I can't begin to describe how frustrating it is to be in a ranked game with two people who can't understand a word you're saying.

It's not a problem with people from Brazil specifically, but people who don't understand English in a game that requires a team effort.

/end rant.

This kind of thing happens in all games where countries are mixed in the in game world. In FFXI there was a whole Japan vs. everyone else thing going around, and I think still happens. There are a lot of Japanese players that specifically don't want to play with American. The reason for this is likely because of communication issues in parties, but the problem is exacerbation on both sides. There is one sort of interesting cultural difference in the game, though. From what I know I think it is very rude in Japanese culture to stare at someone directly, and since the game is an MMO and people have various pieces of equipment players are able to examine other players armor selection. When this occurs the recipient of the examination receives a message. In English the message is innocuous saying something like, "Cloud has checked you" or something to that effect, but in Japanese apparently it says something like, "Cloud stares at you intently" or something that comes off more creepy. What you can do in the game to stop people from looking at your armor is once you receive that message you can change your armor and it will drop the other player from your equipment screen, which is what some people would do. This created a sort of bad blood between players. Sorry if this hijacks the thread, but I think its interesting how cultural differences can play out in video game worlds where everyone is essentially the same.

A guy I queued with quite a bit playing LOL was Russian and his English so-so. It was enough for us to communicate, and he was a good player.

Anyways - your English is certainly better than my Russian. Welcome aboard!
