So out of curiosity what are people's favorite games of all time.
I would say list your top 3 and add why as well. the why part makes it better so instead of just posting the top games based on general popularity you can really show how you like to game.

I'll start.

1) The ratchet and clank series (if i had to pick one it would be Up Your Arsenal)
This series IMO is my favorite game series of all time, great platforming and the weapons are just so much fun. I chose up your arsenal as my favorite because i'm certain that i have played that game more times than i am willing to admit and it is easily my most played game of all time. Not to mention the Ps3 versions are just stunning and the game has some very simple humor to it.

2) Assassin's creed 2 - My favorite current gen game series. I think assassins creed 2 did it right, it took the flaws from the first game, and it improved on it. Great gameplay, and i just love the historic atmosphere and overall experience of just jumping around like an assassin.

3) Conker's bad fur day - Oh my, almost forgot about this but this rude, politically incorrect game was just an amazing experience. Whether fighting against a GIANT turd. killing teddy bear nazi's, lava surfing right before you use a dinosaur to beat a giant caveman. This game has so many hilarious amazing moment, not to mention being incredibly fun. Sometimes incredibly frustrating. But most of all a great time that made me go back and re-buy an n64 just to play it again. (you fight a great might poo by feeding him corn and throwing toilet paper at him. What is not to love?)

Honorable Mention - Jazz Jackrabbit
I chose this game because it introduced me to the world of video games. i remember playing this on DOS and windows 4.1. My father was into technology so i always had new games. but i will never forget the amount of time i spent playing this game and how it basically pushed me towards becoming a video game developer.

Honorable Mention 2- Half life 2. Because crowbar and gravity gun.

Top 3 favorites eh? Ive played so many games that it's hard to pick in all honesty.

1) Final Fantasy 6 (Or 3 wichever you prefer): Out of all the FF's I played this was by far my favorite and I still catch myself hooking up the SNES to replay this gem. The story was great but most of all I liked how every single character had something completely unique about them that no other char had. It made setting up your party for specific fights a fun activity.

2) Wing Commander series ( III: Heart of the Tiger being my fav in those ): I am a absolute sucker for space flying games, and these were one of the first games I played. Not a whole lot to say about it, its back from the DOS era. Its a love or hate series and I happened to love it. I am still sad that there are virtually no good space fighters anymore. (With the exception of Freelancer, that game was awesome)

3) Castlevania (NES): Need I even explain this one? Difficult, frustrating and trial and error. Yet enough pull to keep you going till you beat it. If you never tried it I say you should

Honorable Mention: Street Fighter 2,3,4 - Played the crap out of these in my youth and am still playing the 4th iteration. Awesome fighting game and can give you a good feel of accomplishment learning those difficult links and beating out top players.

Also, Command and Conquer series Pre-RA3

Age of Empires II: The Conquerors
Final Fantasy Tactics
Diablo I/II

Are the three games I've spent the most time on in my life. Unless you count text-based MUD's, then thats #1 I've logged a few thousand hours on various ones.

Final Fantasy 9
Um Jammer Lammy (going back and playing it recently, holy shit is it's timing window unforgiving)
EA Sports NHL '94/'96

Loved the story from FF9 over most JRPG's, FF6/4 and Chrono Trigger a close up there though

Um Jammer Lammy is just a fun rhythm game, and a spiritual successor at the time to PaRappa the Rapper

And who the hell doesn't love NHL '94 or '96

FF9 was my favorite of the FF JRPGS's, I just can't play games like that anymore I feel like it sucks so much time away lol. And while the card game in 8 was probably a little better, I spent so much time playing it on 9. I wish they'd separate that into a client id play all day.

3 games? 3 whole games? Holy crap that's a tight list.

#1-Secret of Mana/Seiken Densetsu 2(SNES) A game that pretty much defined my childhood. One of the RPG's that helped define the genre, and has aged very well but then again so did most SNES games.

#2-Earthbound/Mother 2(SNES) One of the most interesting and unique RPG series I have ever experienced. The unique humor and flavor of the series has stood out in my mind for years and I have enjoyed the entire series. If you've never played it and enjoy RPG's I recommend you give it a go.

#3-Final Fantasy Tactics(PSX) My favorite Final Fantasy in the series. One of the best tactical RPG's available for any console. My favorite features about the game was how they treated the class system, with the ability to mix and match your abilities you could create some really powerful units. I recently found a fan made patch to the game that fixes a lot of the bugs and re-balances the game. If you want to check it out go to insanedifficulty.com, they have quite a number of patches for a bunch of classic RPG's to ramp up the difficulty.

This seriously might be my favorite game of all time. Have you played any of the difficulty mods? You can make the game waaaaay more intense.

Yeah I have yet to find another TRPG that gives me that same level of enjoyment. Phantom Brave was pretty close but I never got very far in it.

Yeah even the GBA versions never really captured the awesome-sauce that the original nailed.

Frankly the GBA version sucked dick compared to the PSX, it was no where near as in-depth. I remember shitting bricks reading through the 300+ page strategy guide on GameFAQ that went through all the math behind the Zodiac Brave signs and how they would make your team members interact with each other etc... I'm gonna have to rip this game to my PSP tonight heh.

Ever since I learned about the JPglitch I don't know if I could grind through the game without using it haha. Banner Saga looks pretty cool I will be watching that closely, thanks for the linkage.
