Hello,

I go by the tag Larue lately (sometimes Lady Larue/Blue Larue/The Larue), so sup! I played quite a bit of LoL and HoN back in the day (both since beta practically), but I've been playing DotA2 on and off for about a year now. I'm extremely rusty due to DotA2 coming out in my last year of college, but now with a stable job I am ready to play DotA2 all the damn time.

I am kind of anxious about solo queue, because I am not the bestest player out there. I primarily play hard supports (mainly Lich/Plague/Sona). My strengths are warding, buying courier (totally a skill), and doing my best to protect the carry and let him gain levels and farm. My weaknesses are that I have a hard time micro-ing and using my active items during teamfights. You know, I'm that guy that forgets they have a wand or a mech and die miserably to things I probably could have survived/saved other people.

My main interest is to play with nice folk who are gonna be constructive and won't be afraid to let me know what I could have done better.

Skeleton King is easy to play and kind of a carry. I personally think Lich is one of the better teachers though. Ranged with very simple abilities in the support role. Teaches you when you should go in ... and punishes you for being out of place (cause Lich doesn't have that much HP and is pretty easily destroyed).

His ult is pretty fun too. Its like Brand's except, imo, more powerful and more noticeable.

Yayay! I see not many are on mumble atm. Part-time professional here. Suffered from sleepytime syndrome last night, but I get off work at 7 PM EST so I will chillax with ya'll tonight for a spell.

Hello.

I don't know if Dazzle is really considered OP. He's really good, but you should play what you like though branching out is always good. I mean, people think Morphling is OP and broken, but that's why there are picks and bans!

I played LoL as well, was the first dota-type game I played. It helps a lot more than just being new to it all, but the biggest difference is how snowball-style heroes fall off pretty hard late game. There is also the fact towers deal less damage than in LoL, so you aren't always safe under the tower depending on the heroes coming to gank you. Beware of Bane + Earthshaker! If anything, you can choose to random in bot games to learn about different characters without the stress of other players calling you names. The bots in DotA2 are pretty hard to fight against in unfair mode when it comes to last hitting and whatnot, so its pretty good practice (as opposed to LoL's bots that are just there for win of the day).

DotA has a lot of intricacies that are hard to explain. It all comes from experience. I've been playing DotA2 for a year and HoN for like 2 years, and I am still pretty bad at some stuff! haha

Last hitting is such a huge deal tho, at least if you are trying to last hit deny as a support. Sometimes I am lucky the people I play with can do denies while I do the harass.

How is the game so far?

I manly enjoy those types of games for the PvE action...instances/dungeons and such...not so much a fan of PvP. I was considering getting the game, but wasn't sure if it was worth it.

I'm still only lv 25, so don't take my whole word on it without some thought, but I love the PvE elements so far. There is so much to do! Also, a major plus is the game scales your level down to match an area if you are over leveled. This means that you won't ever steamroll through content, so you can always go explore other starting areas without feeling like a juggernaut. This happens in dungeons as well, since I heard the first one has 3 other modes other than the story one. All the modes are hard and scale you to lvl 30. So even if you are level 80 with the best gear, you will still need to be on your toes to explore the other stories in the dungeons.

Larue,

We're currently playing on Gate of Madness and having a blast. If you need a home just transfer over and hit me up on mumble and we'll get ya a Ginvite!

I will consider this heavily. I feel like my server is a ghost town. What is the PvP like for you guys?

Woo!

Would it be possible for me to invite other friends who may be interested? Or would they have to be doobs too?

On the plus side, we can still guest pass and still dungeon together. Woooo

I only got to play one in-house the previous Sunday, but I will admit I was sad the game I played felt kind of stompy with the picks (I am totally cool with all the guys that played tho, its just an observation). I am wondering if there could be a mode for just novices and moderates (I guess on that scale would be 1-3) where it would be AR. This would be a place for people to be forced out of the characters they usually pick, but do so without probably being stomped really hard by the more advanced players.

I feel like one of my big shortcomings (other than not getting to play as often as I would like) is that I don't feel comfortable branching out in the presence of 4-5's, because I feel like I will make us lose by trying to carry, jungle, or mid. I'm also always in the mindset of the Chinese 5 player (aka the hard support who never farms and spends 99% of their money on wards/courier), because for the past 2 years of LoL and HoN that is the role I played in my team and I was very successful. The current metagame of Dota2 doesn't seem to allow for that kind of play, so I need to relearn how to play just for that.

These are my 2 cents and I will probably be able to make the next Sunday game, though I might be an hour late or so since I am working that day.

Spirit Breaker is so cool. I wish he wasn't such a scary pick that no one really dares to try.

Can't wait to get home and watch that game, cause Spirit Breaker has a special place in my heart.
