Hello all, I saw the post on reddit...suprised?....and so I figured I would hop over here! I have played a bit of LoL in my time, however that was 1+ years ago, so I am not even sure if that counts at this point. I picked up DoTA2 recently, and I have been loving it. I have always enjoyed a healing/support role, and felt as though I was getting pretty good with Dazzle. Then I heard that Dazzle is considered OP and looked down upon by the community, so i have been trying to branch out. I am not married to the support role, but it just seems like a solid way to learn the game.

I am at work, but I figured over the weekend I would install Mumble.

I am just hoping to learn some more about this game, get better, and play with some fun people!

If you want to add me on Steam, its the same handle, so feel free.

So I have played DoTA2 for about....50 hours so far? But I still feel like a noob, probably one of the few games that follows those lines!

I do really need to work on my last hits/denies i am pretty bad at timing them. I have recently tried Disruptor a bit, and I like his mechanics, so i have been enjoying him.

I had fun last night!

My Earth Shaker was pretty horrific, but over-all a great time!
I would rate the amount of fun I had on the scale of 1 to drunk, i was....drunk.

How is the game so far?

I manly enjoy those types of games for the PvE action...instances/dungeons and such...not so much a fan of PvP. I was considering getting the game, but wasn't sure if it was worth it.

I played the shit out of the XBox version. Beat it a few times. Can't remember when i had that much fun.

I am not sure if I am going to pick up the PC, or wait for the DLC on the Xbox. I can only assume the community would have a much longer life on the PC. It is and has been my favorite game in a very long time. If you are in Anor Londo, i would suggest the Painted World! Its pretty fun, and there is an invasion in there.

I would really recommend playing the game through as a human, it adds alot to the game. I missed alot the first time around because of it.

Yeah, i would say the Thief build is pretty tough for the first time around, but so satisfying when you can kill most things in 1 hit! Backstabbing and Parrying is awesome! Bosses Hard Master Key awesome!

If you killed the chica in the Painted World, i believe you can use her soul to build a bad-ass dagger...Priscilla Dagger I believe? I think its supposed to be one of the best in the game.

If i was going to get it on the PC, i think I would need to get a Wireless XBox controller adapter, I heard playing on the Keyboard is awful.

I think on my first character, i used the Winged Spear I found in the graveyard at the beginning of the game, and upgraded it to scale with my Int. I want to say the modifiers that scale with your own stats are the best. Lighting is pretty powerful though.

I was never a big fan of Qualeogs Fury...or however you spell it....I never had that much Humanity to have it be very effective.

I feel like whenever I get a decent amount of Humanity, i get murdered by someone invading :/

Then again, if you make it and don't like it, its not a huge loss. I say just go for it.

So...I noticed the Dota University section off of the main page....Is there any interest in updating that? Or was anyone planning on it?

I specifically went there to learn more about Warding, because i literally know nothing about it. I saw it was on the list to-do, but I was not sure if getting that section up and running was still in the works?

Just curious.

So I think I will use the opening cinematic to say why I like this game:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylFzJ3wRgHw

So what I love about this opening cinematic is that you will go to all of the places and meet most of the people in the video. For example, you will have to fight Nito and his army of undead. You will meet the Witches daughters of Chaos and see how the flame has corrupted them. Gwyn will try and tear you down thoughout the game, his army of Black Knights are spread thought the world, they are deadly, and they will kill you, because they are better then you. Even the Furative Pigmy mentioned in the intro, has relavance. Dragons? yup this game has them, and they are difficult. You will need to hunt down Seath the Scaless and steal his soul. Think that demon is going to be hard? Yup he is a mother F*kin demon, of course he will be. You cant just charge in, you will die.

The scale and grandure of these things are awesome, and your character starts out awful. Seriously your guy is terrible at the beginning, but you can get just as awesome as all of these things in the video. You will be storming castles, and fighting Gargoyles 3x your size, and they will murder you because they are fucking bad ass gargoyles that breathe fire. When you beat them as a lowly peon its pretty satisfying, and you did it because of your skill. Then when you meet them later in the game, they are just common enemies, and you will kill them, because you are a bad ass at that point. You will laugh at how hard they seemed, then you will get slapped in the face by a different enemy/challenge. The atmosphere and enemies work very well together. There is actually alot of Lore to the game, but it doesn't tell you that, you have to figure it out for yourself.

So i am just going to stop here as I am sure i am just Rambling at this point. Obviously I love this game. It doesn't hand you anything you have to earn everything, and you will feel better for it.

From a new guy perspective......

I like Captains mode in a sense that it does seem to create a bit more balance for the more experienced players, i.e...Anti-Mage is not just stomping around on people, I get a chance to learn a bit of strategy.

At the same time, I am not familiar with all the characters, so its hard to be put in a position where I have no idea what I am doing with someone. Granted, maybe its probably a good thing to play some characters I would normally not choose, but it is disheartening to just bring the team down, no matter if its a serious game or not.

From my personal noob perspective, i would not mind tagging a number to myself.

I could see that helping the process, as someone would be more likely to give a 1 ranking some more helpful tips if they/I am doing poorly/incorrect. If a 5 is making some big mistakes, they more likely know what they are doing right/wrong. Maybe what I am trying to say is, people would be a bit more understanding of why people are messing up if they know exactly where their skill level lies.

At the same time, i would think a number system would be hard to develop. I do feel as though I have a much better handle on what I am doing when I am playing Dazzle for example, because I have poured my time into him. When I play a Carry character, I feel completely lost. That could be the difference between a 1 with some characters, and a 3 with my main character, or something along those lines.

I think as long as a good number system is developed it could show what people need to work on what, and would not come off as elitist. I think if you just assign arbitrary numbers without any of the individual input, that is when it could possible come off as elitist.

A solid number system would also work well for us noobs; as we would know who to talk to about things, who we should direct questions to, ask for help..ect...

It goes both ways I think.

EDIT: Sorry for the book, my job can also get quite slow....

I would have to agree that I have enjoyed playing with the more experienced players. Shane had some unique strategies last night, but it was very light-hearted and fun. I have also been able to play with FallenElf, and he literally walked around with me to show me ward spots. That was very helpful.

I think one of the problems about grouping all the new people together is that we....for the most part....have no idea what we are doing. I have no idea when to swap over to the "mid-game phase", or setup ganks for example, so some leadership would be nice in that respect. It seems like if you get a group of noobs together, no one is really going to speak up, because no one is really sure what to do. Hell, i don't even know how to draw on the map at this point.

I guess the above concept would be more of a "Coaching" session, and I am sure not every upper-level player is really going to want to do that every week.

Soooo dumb question here.....would "casting" the game or 'CM'.....would that essentially be watching a replay of the game with commentary?

I can only imagine that picture is 100% accurate, i refuse to believe otherwise.

If we could host it from this site, that would be pretty cool. I just went to the sendspace site, and it seem like if I click the wrong spot on the page, my computer will instantly be infected with Viruses.
