Hey, folks. I finally made an account here after seeing you all promoted on r/Dota2. I play on US (E&W) servers, but don't have a reliable time when I can play pubs, so I have waaaay too many bot games, since they don't seem to mind numerous pauses. Because of that I have way too many hours played in Steam compared to the amount of games, but at least I know all of the heroes, even if I'm bad at a few.


Like most of you (everyone who isn't a rager?), I absolutely hate pub players, and would love to actually queue with some friendly folks who don't think their 20 cs at 20 minutes makes them Dendi, which for some reason gives them the right to rage at whoever is playing a hero they [think they] understand, because a bad game OBVIOUSLY couldn't be their fault.


Anyway, I don't want to yell at people or be yelled at - just want to enjoy this awesome game and, err, don't know what else to say. Hi.

The games were fun yesterday. I like the idea of different lobbies for different game types.


In theory, randomizing teams should balance out in the long term, but potentially just making sure the obvious highest-skill players are on separate teams, then randomizing the rest, could be a fair compromise. Drafting players would almost certainly be the most balanced, but if one were to find themselves last-picked every game, it could be demoralizing and lead to people not wanting to play at all. Who wants to be explicitly told that they are the least valued player on the team? (*cough* As the person who has the fewest games here, I already know I'm one of - if not the - lowest skill member *cough*)


I also like the idea of coaching. However, as a potential coach-ee, rather than coach-er... obviously, however higher skilled players want to spend their time is up to them.

Sign me up for a game, please! (Whichever it takes to get a good skill distribution.)

I like captaining a lot, though people complaining about picks for literally the whole game today was starting to really piss me off, to be frank. :\ There is nothing wrong with disagreeing with picks and saying so, but complaining about it all game put a bad taste in my mouth and felt really disrespectful. I have disagreed w/ captain's picks before and brought it up, but I would never complain about it all game, even if I thought the "mis-pick" was game-changing. (Which happened recently w/ a Sand King pick when I thought Earthshaker was significantly better vs. the enemy lineup.)


I think it's a lot easier for people to be respectful when people like Gambit and Shane are captains - even when Shane is doing fun, but ridiculous stuff like banning all evil looking heroes (hehe) - than it is to respect some of us Nooblier of Doobs when we're captaining, but is something everyone needs to work on if you two want more people captaining.


For my part, I have pretty thick skin and am happy to try my hand at captaining whenever I'm not feeling too sick, but that tells me if it's something that is putting me off, I would expect it would put others off who may not be willing to speak up.


(Hope this post doesn't offend anyone. I know I'm newer here so I don't have too much ground to stand on, but I fucking love playing with you guys: It's made the game 200% more fun - real maths hehe - and I wanted to give some honest input.)

I'd also like to add... let's *please* remember that these are for learning and for FUN! When people are being openly frustrated with the rest of the team, it ruins the atmosphere and morale for EVERYONE. Constructive criticism is great, but if you are just venting passive-aggressively it literally adds nothing to the game other than spreading the unhappiness around. NOT FUN

Thanks, Shane, for running an awesome tournament all-day Saturday. It sounded like a pain in the ass, but was really fun!
