My office's IT department recently decided to install Invincea onto our computers. It's so awesome! That was sarcasm. I can't actually see what I'm typing right now, because apparently, I can only use IE with this system, and it doesn't render properly. Anyone else's office like to screw with them?

so here goes:
i work as a software developer, so i need some good resources to be available for compiling/testing. last year we switched to symantec re-distributable anti-virus due to our normal IT guy was on extended leave so the temp moron forgot to renew our contract with Eset so we lost our amazing price. problem? yes! it used ~1-1.5 GB of ram while doing background scans. temp IT guy set it to background scan always! so our 2GB computers would crash with Out of Memory exception or compiling would take 20-30 minutes (should take ~5) so i tell him either A) get a normal AV or b) get us new memory. he says no point, work with what you have. regular guy returns, calls temp a moron, fires him, gets all dev's new computers (we showed the higherups the 30 minute compile time and they were like ZOMG DOWNTIME!!), and as a bonus he gets us all new computers that are office property but we use them at home ![]() |

The board doesn't render right in IE? I think its teh current default theme, it looks TERRIBLE in IE. Try switching from the user menu? Should i switch the default back to the old one? Guess we really need to create our own. @DJ_Lenny - Eset is the shit. I ran Nod32 forever on my PC's and the Security Suite after that and it was best in class hands down. I don't run A/V anymore but if I suspect I'm infected I ALWAYS use that Eset Online Scanner, its epic. And it sounds like you guys made the best of a bad situation over there ![]() |

eset is a technical godsend. while running background scans, in the events of large files it only reads pieces at a time to save on memory (fucking brilliant programming on the part of the devs) and ya, i love our regular IT, just couldnt stand his temp replacement.
however my secret weapon in terms of "am i infected with something" is Malwarebytes anti-malware. i have purchased a license only to support them (the free scanner is amazing, the background system is ok). |

Yep, we just switched all our clients from Sophos to Eset, and have been nothing but impressed! |

I guess they're trying to make me actually work while at work. Lame. |

You guys familar with this site? If not you should be! Its the tits! My only complaint here is that Executor is so much better than Launchy. I couldn't survive on Windows without a utility like that tho. |

How do you guys feel about the Avast virus scanner? I've been using it ever since the Eset prices went up. I feel like it's comparable to Eset but would appreciate a more informed perspective. Thanks.

if you are against piracy but still need a free AV avast is what I would recommend
IMO though its only just OK, it will prevent infections on your computer but it doesn't excel at cleanup of the nasty stuff and doesnt quite revolutionize anything |
