So i am a bit behind it looks like, i just tried the demo. The only other game I have played similar to this format is Commands, and just from the brief demo of Xcom....it kind of blows Commands out of the water. How does Multiplayer work in this game though?

Just one on one death match...

You setup the match with a point total and then each player build their squad using that total by purchasing units and equipment. Since neither party know what the other playing is fielding it makes for some interesting matches. It's a very basic but looks like it would be a lot of fun. I'm hoping them or the modding community expands it out a bit though.

Ah OK, I was thinking that out of the 4 man squad, you would have 4 different humans playing the roles of each squad member.

This literally should like a modified version of Chess where you can pick your pieces....and they have guns.....and they are aliens.....so maybe not like Chess all that much.

EDIT: Oh, and it is Classic Ironman or bust!

From what we've seen in the video posted above its just head to head, I think you have a separate multiplayer squad you take care of but I'm not sure. Alverez and I will be trying out Multiplayer sometime this week(end) and we will stream it for your enjoyment if you watn to watch

I didn't do Ironman so I'm in the habit of re-doing missions 3-5 times just to get the best results, heh. I just successfully cleared the underground Alien hideout last night.

Aaaand I have this classic ironman game going on my work laptop! *shh* I should have brought a controller into work, the touch-pad is kinda meh.

I plan to start this today at my work, if things are slow enough. I at least have a mouse should it should be serviceable.

No luck for playing at work, although I did get some time in this morning. I am on my... sixth classic ironman game? At least the last one I rode out to the very end and saw the losing cutscene. I've been brainstorming and thought you guys with a few more days experience than me could give some input.

I feel like getting an additional satellite up before the first council review is essential as it vastly increases your resources for the second month. Getting more than two satellites up seems a bit tricky since building another uplink requires 10 engineers. I guess it is possible to get an uplink and a third satellite up before the third month if you take the engineer reward mission and start in a region that generates engineers, but is this what you guys do?

The other major resource is experienced soldiers, and I think this is where I am failing. Most of my soldiers die at the rookie or squadie levels, and I have only ever had a few corporals spread over all of my games. One of the things that I noticed in the early missions is that I do not take advantage of flanking enough. Do you guys try to quickly get up a group of experienced soldiers, or mix in a few rookies the way Star Trek threw the red shirts into the fray? Or have you simply ignored missions when your forces were recovering?

I base my soldier load-out on the mission difficulty. For example Terror and Abduction missions I KNOW some of my squad is going to die, because I will risk them to ensure the safety of VIP/Civilians, and will take a squad of 3-4 rookies/squaddies and maybe one experienced guy, but not my BEST.

The other missions are a little more laid back and I can take as many turns as I want to move into position so I take my experienced guys there to get them... well... more experience haha.

My biggest problem with this game is that both Uno and Walmart have made FallenElf soldiers and let them DIE. This will not stand. I should be heroically decorated and very much ALIVE.

I have given up on naming soldiers for the time being... it was getting depressing. Thanks for the tips binary!

Alright, you've made you point. I'm about halfway through my second dark souls run. I think I can marathon through it in a couple of evenings. Once that's done, I'll be on the Xcom train.

I just hit my first Alien UFO landing (not a crash they actually landed), I saved and went to bed after taking out 6 floaters, I can only imagine what's in store for me when I load up again.
