I am even more excited about this one than Alverez was about X-Com. If they can pull off all they're promising, it will be the fulfillment of all my childhood dreams about space sims.

Is this like a Colony Wars type game? Or maybe a Freelancer type?

If so it will most likely a day 1 purchase for me, if my computer can run it.

This kinda reminds me of Alien Legacy on DOS, great game.

I spoke to Jbrown yesterday and it seems to be a multiplayer super space sim, kind of like EVE but where the players actually control the ships in sim fashion. I think is multiplayer, but I don't think its MMO based. So it has servers that you can join kind of like Day Z, but not on a super massive scale. He gave a 50 minutes overview yesterday and promised a lot, if he delivers on half of it will probably be a pretty baillin' game.

What I gleaned from the announcement was that there will be a single player campaign a la Wing Commander, but you'll be able to invite your friends to fly on your wing for those missions. After the single player, you'll be able to play in a huge mmo style galaxy with privateer style economy. You can own carriers, store your friends ships on your carrier, and everything is rendered in real time inside and outside the ship. That means you can sit on the bridge of your carrier and watch your friends dogfight through the windows, or hop in a fighter yourself and join the fight.

He also said that the multiplayer portion will have weekly or bi-weekly mini updates with new content and changing the galaxy according to what the players have done. Cool shit like exploring and finding a new jump point with a new star system and then being able to name that jump point after yourself.

There will be full modding tools and private servers like Minecraft, so I fully expect someone with way too much time on their hands to do cool shit like recreate Tie Fighter or make a Battlestar Galactica campaign.

It sounds like he's promising the world and maybe can't deliver all of it, but I have faith until proven wrong.
