I heard about this site through the DotAInsight podcast (which I just started listening to, so good timing I guess).

I've had my beta key for about a year or so, but never really played much outside of bot matches. My experience with the DOTA2 community has been...well...sub-par. I played LoL for about 2 years or so (about 1400 matches or so), so I know the "basics" of the genre, but DOTA is a bit more complex.

My only real issue/concern, is that I can almost never use TS, because of where my computer is located (about 3 feet from my TV). I also lost the mic attachment for my headset. I've been a MMO player for years, and will listen, just not talk. It's always worked there (and I MT'ed in WoW for a while), so I hope it will work in DOTA2.

As far as roles, I don't even really know the DOTA meta, or the heroes that well. I typically played Jungle, AD carry, and Support in LoL (mostly the first and last) if that helps at all.

Sorry for the lengthy intro...

You and your lengthy intro . Don't worry about not being able to speak in TS3, if you can sit in a channel to listen and type in game then you'll be fine! I'd be more than happy to show you some of the basics, but I know some of our members will be able to help you out even more.

Welcome to the group!

As fallen said, still jump on TS3 and sit in the channel. We have several people that either type all the time or when something is going on (family, etc), but still being able to hear other people is quite useful. Cheers!

That was EXCELLENT timing, thanks for taking the time to check us out! I have a few real-life friends who don't even own a mic and still play on the TS server with me, so come join the club.

Yeah while it would be preferable that you have the ability to talk, as long as you can type fast you should be fine in casual dota play.
