Just saying hello and giving a quick introduction. I’m fairly new to the moba scene in general. I received my first taste of this genre from playing Smite and I figured I try out Dota 2. So far I am enjoying my time put into it and would like to continue playing and learning. I was fortunate to party up with Face aka SouSouSou-hidden missile yesterday and was directed to the dotanoobs site. Looking forward to playing with many of you and to learn as much as possible. I am a human sponge! Cheers!

Greetings. I'm really interested in this mentor program. But do have a couple of questions/comments as a person who is really, really, really new. Is it better to focus on lane control and last hitting to start and work yourself up from there? Also from my experience, dictating which hero(s) are better suited to individuals with the lack of map awareness/game experience so they are learning the game and not become a liability to the team (which happens regardless)? For example, i know that i may contribute more to the team as a support than something a bit more demanding. But in that instance, am I full support or partial-support? This may not make much sense or it may to some. Feedback is always welcomed. Cheers!

Skyop: Understood. My thinking is how can I improve while still contributing in a positive manner. And still have fun doing it. Which so far I am.

Lemonstre1357: Thank you for the input. The whole map awareness bit is just from my experience from Smite that has made me into a mini-map junkie. But I do see your points.

Fallenelf86: My apologies if my questions came off as loaded. I think that since I have an idea of which path I would like to tackle first in DOTA2. It makes my questions a little more direct to my current situation. Which I could be totally wrong in taking said path. I will take a look at the match once I'm back home later today. But thank you for linking me to it. Dazzle is a very fun hero to play.

Moving further into my abyss of questions, Item builds will vary depending on situations, hero and so on. I see wards as a must for gank mitigation, what are some common item builds that you would see used on a regular basis? I saw what Lemonstre1357 posted above. Is this a good course of action?

Thank you again for all the help. cheers!

I am starting to see the rational behind your post and my questions. If I may, last night I had a game with a "support" Sand King. Was able to make a pipe and was asked by one teammate why pipe if I am not ganking? Which raised the questions as too what is expected out of a Sand King as semi support. Which I had no real answer too. I figured that the pipe would help me live a little longer. Which rarely worked and to be honest, in the middle of team battles I would totally forget about my consumables.

We won the match by really digging our heels and pushing forward. My contribution was lacking since i had not played a support SdK (by my judgement it was lacking). Why sand king? Single draft and I felt a little more comfortable with sand king as opposed to Bounty hunter and sniper.

In the end, I am having a lot of fun with Dota 2. I may be trying to take in to much information at the moment. Cheers!

this whole post feels like it belongs in Memento with the back tracking to the basic point. Thank you all for providing me with some answers to all of these questions. I have a better understanding now of how to approach item builds in the game. Now to go and dig my head in some "newer player" guides and absorb what I can.

And getting back to the topic of this hijacked post. Are sign-ups still available for the mentoring? As you can well see I am interested (a little to much to be honest).

DMC: Devil May Cry was actually a really good pc port which was a bit surprising to say the least. Good to see the PC platform get some love from developers again.

Really excited for this to be a thing that will be available for one and all. Currently looking into a better understanding on the laning face. Mid-game strategies and weapon/item choices (both defensive and offensive).

I do regret not being able to attend for the Q&A ( in the process of moving). But just wanted to say thank you to all involved for getting this up and running. This will help many like myself immensely. And thank you to Fallenelf for the VoD! Best 1:46 minutes spent at work. Cheers!

Greetings and salutations!. This is a great place to learn the intricacies of the game. Everyone is very helpful both in the forums and in Team-speak. On a separate note, Zombie Bunny has destroyed all my ambitions for this game. Enjoy the game for what it is. Fun. Cheers!

Hello Folks. I was just sitting here at work and figured I ask how some you folks ended playing Dota 2. Or what started you on this game. As for myself, this is the first MOBA that I have delved into. Before this I was playing a good amount of SMITE and liked the way team play/synergy is necessary in order to achieve the goal. Was made aware of DOTA 2 by one of the folks I just to play with and they gave me a key . And here I am. Anyhow can't wait to read some of the old timey stories here. Cheers!

Very interesting story here.

Never heard of Dota, LoL or HoN. Saw Valve was developing Dota2. Applied to the beta because hey why not.

Got into the beta and was immediately confused (Vanguard all the heroes).

Would you say a "Manly Vanguard"! I can see how that is confusing as all hell.

Anton: That is correct. SMITE is the 3rd person MOBA from HI-REZ. It's good fun and very casual friendly.
