I fucking love the idea of a open MMR rating. Gives you something to work towards

I'm for it, I'm not sure if I'd like it to be public. But oh well, I doubt it will be as bad as it was in the HoN community... Hopefully not anyway!

I'm surprised so many people voted yes for public stats. I'm all for having a rating, like Bearhug said, just so I have something to work towards and to see if I'm improving or not. But I'm against random pubs taking 2 seconds to check my rating and start telling me to go support just because my rating is lower (I played a little bit of HoN too). I guess this problem will only be apparent in low rating games, but I think that's where it's most important. Dota is already non-noob-friendly, adding public stats can only add fuel to the flames. Just my opinion though.

We're actually going to release a blurb on the main page in favor of DBR not being publicly available. The other admins and I feel that while having something to work towards is awesome, being able to use it to flame people is not. We feel that having it public goes against the very spirit of the community we've built here.

Well seems like we don't need to worry anymore. Test build update enables to deny access to the data for 3rd party sites !

The bronze jokes end here

This is why valve rocks. Perhaps this will be a strong enough response to make Dotabuff consider making the stat private for those who want to use their service without fear of flaming.

I've heard much gripe from friends that play LoL about the public rankings and it seems like something that would only hurt the Dota community.

I have a feeling Dotabuff will let the user change the settings to private because of the response that it has recieved so far. Also, valve did a great job at countering it if what cipkenop said is true, so kudos to them.

Dotabuffs saying that 1/4 of the player population is platinum. So is this suggesting that the average dota player is mid skilled leaning towards above average ?

Well since it's in the Beta, only people that care at least a little about learning the game play right now. I have a feeling that when it goes live, people will be playing just to mess around and have no interest in learning how it is played.

Most of the new players will be terrible making the average go down a lot. So when you look at the future most people playing now are above average.
