Hello! I'm Doctor_of_Recreation, also known as D.Rec., Doc, or -if you're one of those people who can't stand pseudonyms- I suppose you can call me Sam.

I saw someone suggest this site on reddit to another user, so I thought I'd tag along for the ride!

I've been playing DotA since Thanksgiving (watched some of The Defense and decided to man up and play already), and I'm slowly improving my game. I much prefer to play support. In fact, I don't even bother with carries at the moment. I've played a few and it's just not for me (at least not yet, and certainly not until I get better at last hitting). I play bot matches, sometimes with my boyfriend, and get way too frustrated with each death.

Right now I'm working on learning some simple support tasks (still practicing basic warding, and I'm really bad at stacking because I don't pay enough attention to the clock... I practice last hits by denying as a support for the most part). Map awareness is also a huge problem for me. OH WELL. That's why I practice (although I don't practice as much as I could, I'm not in this to get as good as I can as fast as I can). Basically, right now I've got 5 heroes I usually pick from so that I can practice overall game tactics without worrying about my hero's skill and item builds on top of it. When I get bored of those 5, I'll swap them out for 5 different ones, I guess, but it's also not as though I never play anything else (a little KotL is fun once in a while, too, right?!). My 5 "focus" heroes right now are: Dazzle (first one I clicked with), Witch Doctor, Shadow Shaman, Lich, and Tiny (to force myself to play a carry once in a while... hasn't worked yet).

I have a hard time making myself play with people because I get very self-conscious of deaths and mistakes, but friendly communities like this one seem like exactly what I need to start breaking out and playing some co-op games.

I also remember playing the other day and getting extremely frustrated. You've got some fun heroes to stat with, but when playing with Doobs, the Random button can be your friend (as long as it's not Meepo). We're here to help!

Edit: Oh yea, the trick people don't tell you about Dota is that bad plays are not your fault if you blame it on someone else fast enough. This works best if the person you are blaming is Swedish, though any European will do in a pinch.
