Since we are a noob forum and this game uses a LOT of common acronyms, would it be a good idea to implement an autoreplace list so that some acronyms such as BKB are automatically written out as Black King Bar?

I wonder if this board supports such a plugin. That would be pretty spiff. Failing that, maybe a "Guide to Dota2 Acronyms" post somewhere....

I found this
http://www.playdota.com/learn/commonterms

This should help you out I also agree that it would be a pretty sweet feature to have added.

This board support anything we code into it I just have one thing to say:

While this feature would be an awesome resource to make things more readable, it would make the process transparent, and then when noobs go out into the real world and hear someone talking about BKB, they won't know what that means, which is detrimental to their learning process.

I think what might be better is to add a [item=BKB][/item] just like we can currently do [ user= 1] to get the  binaryatrocity effect. This could make the item a link that when hovered over would pop up item info?

Idk, that would require extra work on the posters part, maybe when you "submit" a post, it checks against a list of common DotA abbreviations, and auto-adds the [item] tag to them, with a checkbox to disable this feature like we can currently disable smilies and auto [br]

I *love* this idea. Wouldn't doing the backend work be a royal hassle for you?

I mean, if you can do it - I think that would be pro as fuck.

I think people would get lazy with using the item tags. I was more thinking that if someone types BKB we replace it with BKB (Black King Bar).

If you can put together the code I can make the database of acronyms. Just let me know the format you need them in.

That's why the post would AUTOMATICALLY do this, unless you explicitly tell it NOT to auto-tag item abbreviations. But I see what you're saying, that could be useful as well. It could be a option in your user settings (display Dota acronym definitions? y/n)

Oh okay, I thought you were saying to leave the images completely manual.

Yeah leaving it up to the end-user would be fail because obviously 90% of the time no one would think to do that.
