Hello Folks. I was just sitting here at work and figured I ask how some you folks ended playing Dota 2. Or what started you on this game. As for myself, this is the first MOBA that I have delved into. Before this I was playing a good amount of SMITE and liked the way team play/synergy is necessary in order to achieve the goal. Was made aware of DOTA 2 by one of the folks I just to play with and they gave me a key . And here I am. Anyhow can't wait to read some of the old timey stories here. Cheers!

Well for me I was a sub to somebody on youtube who started exclusivly making LoL content. Being my lazy self I didn't unsub even though I had no interest in LoL. Later one of the Dotacinema hero spotlights came up in my suggested videos (because I apparently watched all those LoL videos) I watched it then preceded to watch all the rest of them. After that I found Purge, Lumi, and other people on youtube and twitch. After that I applied for the free invite and the rest is history

Never played smite tho. It's the 3rd person view MOBA?

Very interesting story here.

Never heard of Dota, LoL or HoN. Saw Valve was developing Dota2. Applied to the beta because hey why not.

Got into the beta and was immediately confused (Vanguard all the heroes).

Would you say a "Manly Vanguard"! I can see how that is confusing as all hell.

Anton: That is correct. SMITE is the 3rd person MOBA from HI-REZ. It's good fun and very casual friendly.

Atlas, there's no need to lie. Atlas and I know each other IRL. He had fancied me for a while and was trying to find some common interests (he was younger than me and didn't realize I had no interest in him). He followed me around for a while and saw me go into a LAN cafe to play with some friends. Shortly after, Atlas started talking about how much he loved Dota and about all of his pocket strats, still pining for my affection.

Sorry buddy, never gonna happen.

I know fallen IRL, and this is true.

EDIT: Also, heard about the genre, played LoL a few games, heard Valve was making something in the genre and decided to wait. Glad that I did.

Soooo.... a friend of a friend (Fallen) walks into a lancafe (your modern day Bar) that is owned by another friend and is follow into the LanCafe by Atlas (Who followed Fallen there)... Where in real life (IRL) there is some kind of attraction/infatuation from Atlas towards Fallen.. UnoPolak (who may/maynot have followed someone to this LanCafe) can concur on this fact because he knows Fallen IRL. I understand completely.

I have a few IRL Friends (pause for laughter) who have played LoL for years religiously. I tried to play with them but nothing is as frustrating as a new player trying to play on a level 1 account with all level 30 friends. It was doomed from the start. I eventually saw the dota2 beta signup in steam, applied and figured what the heck. level playing field? good graphics? valve?? I'd like to say the rest is history, but I eventually got bored and stopped playing because all my buddies were league nerds and solo queuing got old. Months later I randomly caught a stream of a competitive match and decided to give dota2 another shot. Found out a few friends were up to trying out dota2 as well and we've been playing for a couple months now.

When I was young I played a bit of Dota 1, but not until about 2 years ago, my friend reintroduced me to HoN, I played that a bit, had good fun, I actually bought HoN in smite of LoL when trying that out too due to servers being shit.

Anyway, played HoN for a year or so, and then when I got my beta invite for Dota 2 I just got addicted

My friend offered me a key so i thought i would check it out. Never played anything in this style/genre before. After my first couple of plays i didnt touch it again for a while because i had no idea what was going on. Until i discovered a mate of mine was playing it so i started reading up and playing with him

One day I was on Reddit and it was dinner time. Some sorry chap posted in Random Acts of Pizza wanting to trade his Dota2 Beta Key for a home-delivered pie! (At this time the keys were still hard to find haha).

So I bought that good lad a big Papa Johns pizza and a soda to wash it all down, and installed this new game called "DotA".
